The Kings Arms in Flood, York. Prints derived from my original Painting.
One of the sad facts about York is it floods quite often. There was some quite devastating flooding back in Nov 2000. York was splashed across the national news and the city became a ghost town. Someone had had the brainwave leaving signs on the main roads into the city for weeks afterwards that the city was closed due to flooding, it wasn't business affected were trying to get back on their feet and get back to normal. Lessons were learned and during this down time, I painted a few flood pictures. Strangely someone at the council said that it was not "appropriate", well the kings arms the subject of the picture loved it and put a large version above the fireplace. And they sold prints in there for many years afterwards and the landlord and I became well acquainted.
Lucy my black cat hides in this and most of my other York pictures. Have you found Lucy? You wont she's not in this one! one of only 4 she's not because its a flood picture and cats don't like water!
The original painting was done in Water Colour on Cotton.
