Showers in Minstergates, York. Prints derived from my original Painting.
Minstergates is near to the South Transept of York Minster the part of the church that caught fire in the 1980's. It was lovingly restored and the stained glass "rose window" restored by Peter Gibson, Peter often came along as I painted this picture to check that I had "got it right", he was pleased with the result in the end. The name of the street was derived from the huge metal gates (now removed) that were placed to bar entry to the minster precinct, local legend however suggests that the gates were erected to stop the young clergy visiting "grope lane" now grape lane nearby.
Lucy my black cat hides in this and most of my other York pictures. Have you found Lucy?
The original painting was done in acrylic paint on canvas.
